- K.Burns @ Recording Session in Bed-Stuy|Brooklyn (2008)
“I WANT IN”…those 3 words describes the plite of K.Burns. Hailing from the Clinton Hills neighborhood, the Brooklyn native understands that the hip hop community may be in need of a breath of fresh air…and “The Future” (as he calls himself) feels that there is no doubt that he is the sigh of relief we all have been waiting for.
It all started back in 1999, when K.Burns began indulging in the art of rapping. Along with his god-brother (A.T.) as his counterpart; the two created a unique style of telling the harsh realities they experienced growing up in Brooklyn, through music. Proving to be mroe than just raw talent, the two then found themselves in recording studios, putting their skills to the test. They would go on to gain respect through out their Clinton Hills & East New York neighborhoods; by releasing a series of underground freestyles at ages 14 & 15 (K.Burns being 14 at the time). Not shortly after Burns’ god-brother moved to Atlanta, GA…but Kay kept pushing to make rapping into a career and get his name up in NYC.
Lets fast forward to 2004…K.Burns is now 17 & coming off a 1 yr. hiatus from the hip hop community, but is convinced b his high school comrades (Chase Peso & Focus) to really persue music fulltime. The 3 formed the Renegades (a clique Two-Tre Entertainment) and began flooding the NYC high school scene with raw freestyles and exclusive original music. Things went well for a bit, and the trio recorded over 50 tracks to their catalog. After a falling out with Two-Tre Entertainment the 3 decided to put their “Renegade” movement off and regroup. All the time, Burns is steady cooking up a series of mixtapes that he plans to release.
Upcoming production duo X-Tra Flamez, took notice to his continual grind and offered K.Burns a featured spot on a mixtape they were releasing entitled “X-Tra Flamez presents The Unsigned Mixtape”. With a catchy raspy voice & charasmatic flow he gained the support of X of X-Tra Flamez with his “Goodbye” freestyle; and the two began collaborating ever since. Shortly after realizing his buzz was growing throughout NYC, K.Burns formed the Team Fame Gang consisting of Chase Peso, Uno aka Skrap, Twin City & himself. After a year of grinding and preparation, K.Burns dropped the hood classic “I Want In” featuring Twin City in 2006. Though the project wasnt a complete success…it was just a sample of what was to come from K.Burns & the Team Fame Gang.
With the intense 4th quarter of 2007 coming near….Burns began to record “Brooklyn Gangster/Mixtape Vol.1″ which was hosted by DJ On Point. The mixtape is a work of art, with K.Burns dropping exclusive freestyles as well as street bangers such as Rainbow (produced by Mike Blitz) as well as street bangers “Gingerbread Man” & “Still on the Corner” (produced by X-Tra Flamez). The singles such as “Bossin’ & Flossin’” and “Do it for T.V.” (also produced by X-Tra Flamez), lets the world hear that he got what it takes to make those hits we love to hear, while he drops relentless bars on freestyles like “Hood Life”, “What’s Weight” & “Legendary” ft. Uno of Team Fame Gang.
“I feel I’m the future…not in a cocky sense, but I watch hip hop my entire life…I know what it takes. It’s and untold story of my hood…bottom line. I done seen it fucked up, rise up…and even help to fuck it up honestly. But I’m here to show that with being focused, along with skills and good faith, U CAN’T LOSE…No matter what you do. Dont get me wrong, I want mills but I also want longevity in my career”.
